Eddie’s sister, Pauline, is in Canada from Australia. She, along with his mom, his other sister ALice (with boyfried Bob) and brother Peter dropped by last weekend for some family time in Ottawa. It was good to have all the siblings together. Since I come from a small family it’s always an experience to watch the family dynamics of a larger one. There were lots of laughs. Mom gave us a scare when they first arrived when she fell on the front steps as she was coming into the house. She scraped her leg and wrist but that didn’t stop her or slow her down. She’s such a great sport and keeps up with us with few problems. It was a quick visit but we will be getting together again in December to celebrate Mom’s birthday in Toronto. We will be a much larger group with only our nephew Donald, his wife Sarah and their boys missing. I’ll keep you “posted” on that.
Before the big birthday party we will be having a visit with the Freeman family from Toronto and then going to Massachusetts for American Thanksgiving with my sister and her family. Then, well, it’s Christmas! ! !

Last Thursday Jason came to Ottawa to be a groomsman in his friend’s wedding. His friend Ian arrived on Saturday to attend the wedding and stayed the night with us. If you see the pictures you can see the groom (standing next to Eddie), the groomsmen and Ian (standing next to Jason). (Click HERE to see pictures) It turned out to be a lovely day for a fall wedding. Congratulations Daryl and Maureen!
After we dropped Ian off at the train station on Sunday we decided to stop by the falls (yet again!) so Jason could see them. We were in for a surprise - the lake had been lowered by at least 10 feet and falls were roaring at full speed. When we crossed over to see the canal and the locks we were even more surprised to see that it had been drained! Take a close look at the pictures to see this. I am guessing the Rideau Canal skating will start a few kilometers down from here. It has been so interesting visiting this site so often and watching the changes.
We are expecting Eddie’s family on Friday and I’m sure we’ll be going back to show them the drained canal. Meanwhile, Jason flew back to Toronto on Sunday afternoon and then left on Monday for twelve days in Spain. He’ll be in Madrid for a few days and then spend the rest of his vacation in Barcelona. Wish we could have gone with him - have a great time, Jas!
The weather is chilly here in Ottawa but that didn’t stop us from cruising with the top down (and the heat on) yesterday. Click here for our news!
On Saturday, October 18, our friends Scott, April, Graham and baby Ethan came to visit. They arrived early afternoon and stayed until Monday morning. Our weather cooperated nicely and we were able to go to some familiar places and even have a swim. The next Friday, October 24, our friends Steve, Adrianne, Meli and Jake came to visit. They arrived at about 10 am and stayed until Monday morning. We visited the same familiar places and went to the Children’s Museum which is at the Museum of Civilization in Gatineau, Quebec.
When Eddie and I moved to Ottawa we didn’t realize how many of our dear friends would make the long drive to visit us. We are so happy for this as it has helped to make the transition from Toronto to Ottawa much easier. If you’d like to see some pics of our visit please click here.
Today is November 1 and we spent the day organizing our boxes and unpacking a few more things. It was a long day that started with breakfast at Cora’s and some shopping. I’m glad we turn the clocks back tonight so we can get that extra hour of sleep.
